Levant Post

1 April (LP) – An official in the energy sector in Jordan has predicted that a potential Chinese-Emirati-Jordanian collaboration will be proposing a technical and financial proposal for the Jordan electric power company to conduct an electrical energy generating project through direct incineration of the oil shale in Al-Lajjun and Al-Atarat deposits. This shall be done by using an obstetrics power around 600-900 MW.

He said in a statement that they are currently having negotiations with the collaboration to reach a final draft of the project, and it is estimated that the project will complete the first stage in mid-2016. He also pointed out that the electric power company is still waiting for the proposal.

The government which was represented by the Jordan electric power company and the natural resources authority , has signed an agreement that contains the initial principles with the Jordanian-Chinese-Emerati collaboration to execute the project replying on the Kingdom’s oil shale’s reserves, which are estimated to be of 70 billion tonnes.

The Jordanian Government has several partnerships with international corporations to execute projects that generate electrical power , and produces petrol using extracted oil shale. This is of course within the Kingdom’s recommendations to diversify its sources of energy to ascend from 3% to 39%.
