Serbian President discusses construction of a thermal power plant of 700 megawatts with Serbian Oil Industry

Balkans.com Business News Correspondent - September 5, 2013

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić had talks with the CEO of the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS), Kirill Kravchenko, on plans of expansion in the region and future projects of that company. The two also discussed the projects of construction of a thermal power plant of 700 megawatts and on coal deposits in Kovin, on which Serbia is cooperating with Chinese partners and also on an oil shale exploration project in Aleksinac.

[Previously, oil shale plans that have been discussed for Aleksinac have been in-the-ground mining for oil from shale extraction, involving Eesti Energia (Enefit). -- Tar sands world]

Emphasis was laid on the significance of NIS for Serbia as, in the first seven months of 2013 alone, NIS paid RSD 64.1 billion from tax into the Serbian budget, which is by 40% more than in the same period in 2012. Having introduced Kravchenko to the future moves of the government aimed at improving the business setting, Nikolić said Serbia was turning into a fruitful land for foreign investments, which are necessary for economic recovery.
